VELAYUDHAM CAST: Vijay, Genelia, Hansika, Santhanam DIRECTOR: Jayam Raja

Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay is back I in full Velayudham, force the with mass masala family entertainer. This time around, Vijay has teamed up Jayam Raja, who has deftly packaged it with adrenalinepumping action, great comedy, loads of sister sentiment, good music and two gorgeous heroines to romance our hero, and offered a Deepavali feast! The story revolves around Bharathi (Genelia), a TV journalist in the city who wants to fight corruption and evil forces in society. The state home minister is hand-in-glove with Pakistani terrorists and plans to plant bombs in the city. Bharathi, during one of her sting operations, gets bashed up by the goons and her friends are killed. The goons also meet with an accident and die. She quickly creates a fictitious character called `Velayudham' and leaves a note saying that this man would punish all wrongdoers! Meanwhile, there is this village bumpkin named Velu alias Velayudham, a milk vendor, who dotes on his only sister Kaveri (Saranya Mohan). His cousin is Vaidehi (Hansika) who has a crush on him. Velu comes to Chennai to withdraw the money he has deposited in a chit fund for Kaveri's wedding and lands in trouble. Circumstances force him to meet Bharathi and when he realises the gravity of the situation, Velu decides to clean up the city taking on the identity of the imaginary Velayudham created by Bharathi.

It is a cakewalk for Vijay and he simply excels in his style! Knowing his strength, the actor speaks a few punch lines and plays to the gallery. He is impeccable in stunt sequences and his dancing prowess, romancing the heroines, is a treat to watch. He also flaunts his muscles by taking off his shirt in the climax.

Hansika looks ravishing and provides the oomph factor. She has also tried her hand at comedy and her onscreen chemistry with Vijay is a talking point. Genelia, in a matured role, does her part well. Saranya Mohan is apt in the sister role.

There is a host of comedians, including Santhanam, Soori and M.S. Bhaskar, to provide hilarious moments. Vijay Antony's songs are already a hit and well placed by the director. Priyan's camera elevates the proceedings.

Hollywood stunt master Tom Delmar-trained fights are breathtaking. Though the story is as old as the hills and inspired by Telugu flick Azad, Raja, with the help of producer Aascar Ravichandran, adds the kind of fizz that makes Velayudham a great watch for this festive season.
