Vidyasagar tells TOI (Times of India) he has done away with usual mass elements in Kavalan.

Their Appadi Podu... from Gilli and the tunes from Kuruvi are still considered among the best foot-tapping numbers of the decade. We're referring to the combined forces of actor Vijay and music composer Vidyasagar, which has delivered several hit numbers. And now, the combination is all set to rock yet again, this time in the actor's upcoming film Kavalan that's directed by Siddique.

This time, the composer says he has done away with routine elements such as an introduction song and kuthu number. "Yes, it'll be quite different from the usual Vijay films that you've seen so far," promises the composer, "There's a lot of naivety in his character and basically, Kavalan is a love story."

So, what did he do musically for this particular project? "We've come up with melody-infused fast-paced songs," reveals Vidyasagar, "I'm hoping it'll satisfy both the actor's fans and listeners who like my tunes."

Yaar Ithu... is his favourite song from the album for reasons more than one. "The hero of the film gets several anonymous calls from a girl who claims to be in love with him but he cannot figure out who she is," chuckles the musician, explaining the situation in which this song features on screen, "He's in search and that's when Yaar Ithu... is played out. The lyrics are very appealing too. In fact, I've used this 'song in search mode' as a theme throughout the film." Besides that, he's also tuned Step It Up..., a rumba song!

Will fans expecting a kuthu number in Kavalan be disappointed? "No," he says confidently, "The film's first song is a tiruvizha number but we've worked it out like an introduction song. This is the one for the masses and will more than make up for the absence of a routine kuthu number." The composer is happy about the way the film has shaped up. "It's fresh to see Vijay not projecting a larger-than-life image," he says, "Kavalan will appeal more to the younger generation."

Apart from Kavalan, Vidyasagar's super kicked about Illangyan that's directed by Suresh Krissna. "It'll be a treat for connoisseurs of good music," he explains, "It's about music, music and music all the way....."
