If sources are to be believed, Veteran director Maniratnam has finalized the cast for his new film based on Popular epic "Ponniyin Selvan". To a huge surprise, Maniratnam has opted for Vijay (supposed to be be played by Surya) along with Vikram and Vishal for this multi starrer film. As we reported earlier also, Maniratnam has been working on this script for quite some time with the popular Tamil writer Jeyamohan. This film will be the next mega budget film produced by Sun Pictures after their grand success of Endhiran.

This also shows a clear trend of arrival Multi-starrer films era in Tamil Cinema. Shankar's Nanban has Vijay, Jiiva & Srikanth, While Ajith's Mankatha has Ajith, Arjun, Vaibhav and Bala's Avan Ivan has Arya & Vishal in the leading roles. As we reported earlier Kamal is also considering directing a new movie with Mohanlal, Surya & Ravi Teja.

Also for Vijay fans, no better time for them to rejoice like this. Vijay is already part of Shankar's next and now in Maniratnam's next, the two most wanted directors of present day Tamil Cinema. Thanks to Kaavalan's verdict, Vijay is on signing spree in accepting new interesting offers and completely come out his only-Tirupachi-kind-of-films-is-his-forte. Interestingly both Shankar's Nanban and Maniratnam's Ponniyin Selvan based new film were supposed to be acted by Surya before Vijay grabbed the offer.
